Understanding Mental Health at Work: Level 2 Qualification (RQF)

Aimed at fostering a supportive and mentally healthy work environment, this one-day course focuses on educating participants about key mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-harm, and eating disorders that may arise in the workplace. Though it provides crucial knowledge to promote mental well-being at work, completion of this course does not qualify one as a Mental Health First Aider.

Mental Health Awareness for the Workplace: Level 1 Qualification (RQF)

Targeted towards individuals aged 16 and over, this introductory qualification is designed to raise awareness about mental health in both the workplace and broader contexts. It's an entry-level course that provides foundational knowledge on mental health, aiming to enhance understanding and support within professional environments. Note that this course does not confer eligibility to act as a Mental Health First Aider.

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in the UK is an educational course designed to teach individuals how to identify, understand, and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue or crisis. It's akin to physical first aid but focuses on mental health, providing participants with the knowledge and skills needed to support someone's mental wellbeing or assist them in getting appropriate help.

MHFA courses aim to demystify mental health issues, challenge stigma, and increase awareness and understanding. They cover a range of topics, including:

• Understanding Mental Health: An introduction to various mental health conditions and their prevalence, breaking down myths and fostering a more open and supportive culture around mental health.
• Signs and Symptoms: Teaching how to recognize early signs of mental health issues, including common disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
• Non-judgmental Listening Skills: Training participants in how to offer initial support through non-judgmental listening and communication techniques.
• Guidance on Professional Help: Providing information on the types of professional help available, how to access these services, and what to do if someone is in crisis or experiencing severe mental health issues.
• Self-care: Emphasizing the importance of maintaining one's own mental wellbeing and offering strategies for self-care.

MHFA courses are offered in various formats, including standard adult versions, youth-focused courses for individuals working with or caring for young people, and workplace-specific courses designed to improve mental health support in professional environments.
